Stress management

Stress management massage in Oakland, the tune-up approach

Regular massage sessions of 30, 60 or 90 minutes, and a free first consultation to decide what suits your week.

Chapter 01

What the practice means by stress management

The practice’s own definition is short. Stress management is “the amelioration of stress and especially chronic stress often for the purpose of improving everyday functioning.” The practice’s tagline says the same thing in fewer words: the mind and body tune-up center.

Here, that means massage. It is not counselling and it is not medical care, and I would rather say so plainly than let a page like this imply otherwise. What I offer is a certified massage therapist’s time, in Oakland, at the pressure and pace you ask for.

The practice has been run by a certified massage therapist since 1985, with on-site and work-site sessions as the specialty. Stress management is a way of using those sessions on purpose, as part of how you run a busy life.

A tune-up habit for a week that keeps tightening you up

Some people book one long session when a bad stretch has already piled up. Another way to use massage is as a habit. A 30 minute session is $50, and it is easier to fit into a crowded week than an afternoon is. On a regular schedule it becomes a standing appointment rather than a rescue.

A 60 minute session is $100 and a 90 minute session is $150. Plenty of people mix them: short and regular most weeks, longer when the calendar allows. There is no right rhythm. The right one is whatever you will keep booking, so choose a length and a day that survive your actual schedule.

If your stress lives at the office, work-site chair massage brings the same habit to you, clothed and billed by the minute at $2. Ask about it when you call, and the visit can be planned around your workday.

If you are weighing the two, the practical difference is where the session happens and how long it runs. A table session at 60 or 90 minutes gives the time to go slowly. A chair session is shorter, fits between meetings, and asks nothing of you but a quiet corner. You can use both across a month, and the free consultation is the place to work out which mix suits your hours.

Chapter 03

Starting with the free consultation

The initial consultation is free, and it is just a conversation about what has been bothering you, how much pressure you like and how long a session makes sense, before you book anything. You leave with a plan you chose, not one handed to you.

There is no diagnosis in it and no promise about how you will feel afterwards. If what you are dealing with calls for a doctor or a counsellor, that is who to see, and massage can sit alongside that care rather than stand in for it.

To set it up, call (510) 229-0214. Hours are Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 8 PM, by appointment, and they are flexible inside that window. It is a one-therapist practice, so the person you talk to on the phone is the one you will be working with.
